Alexandria, Virginia (May 14, 2015) — ENODO Global published an article in Foreign Policy today demonstrating the value of creating more effective strategies to work with and engage girls and women in conflict zones. The article, Women are more than victims, so it is time to focus security strategies on them, shows the historical focus has been on males within societies, and females within communities have been neglected from a national security standpoint, despite their importance.

While there have been admirable and well-intentioned development initiatives to stabilize situations for women in hot spots, many of them, while deserving of support, have not moved beyond a humanitarian framework. A women-focused shared security approach can deliver an instrument to bridge the gap between theory and application. By aligning U.S. security interests and the security interests of women in conflict zones, we can establish a platform to develop strategies and programs to empower women and counter extremism.
